The poetic kermesse entitled Peace of Poetry will take place on Thursday, July 26th at 9 pm, in the evocative setting of the Archiginnasio Library courtyard. This event is part of the calendar of initiatives Bologna Estate, and specifically the series “Tonight I’ll speak at the Archiginnasio”.  “Peace of Poetry” will feature a program of poetry readings, some of which will be bilingual.

Participants include some poets well known on the international scene: Alberto Bertoni of the University of Bologna, Antonello Borra of the University of Vermont, Guido Mattia Gallerani of the University of Bologna, Giuseppe Gazzola of the State University of New York- Stony Brook, Peggy Kidney of the University of California, Eliza Macadan, Romanian poet and translator, Mauro Roversi Monaco and

“Peace of Poetry” evokes the interiority of poetic work, and at the same time the possibility that this elusive interior experience might be the occasion for a rich emotional exchange in today’s world.

Writers Between Worlds–

Scrittori fra più mondi

Bologna, 24 novembre 2017, 10.30 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

Palazzo Pepoli (via Castiglione, 8)

Scrittori tra due mondi/ Writers Between Two Worlds, the international symposia series organized by the Centro Studi Sara Valesio – CSSV in collaboration with other cultural institutions –and inaugurated three years ago at Montclair State University in New Jersey (USA), is now continuing in Bologna under the name Scrittori fra più mondi / Writers Between Worlds. The difference in the two titles represents a shift in the CSSV’s work, though in essence there is continuity. While in the US context, the dialogue that brought the various speakers together was predominantly with the relationship between Italian and North American experiences, in this session of the symposium, it will concentrate primarily on European experiences in the fields of literature, cinema, radio, linguistics and history.

The CSSV’s tradition of plurilingual translation studies (in Bologna, for example, there will be poetry readings and presentations in Italian, German, English, French and Dutch) is part of its continuing research interest in the activity of intellectuals and artists who, moving between worlds in various senses, have incarnated in experiences not only cultural but also existential some of the many meanings connected to these migrations.

The presenters come from various European and American institutions:  Genus Bononiae. Musei nella Città (Bologna), Europa-Universität Flensburg (Germany), Université de Haute-Alsace (France), Casa Editrice Alfred A. Knopf (New York), L.UN.A Libera Università delle Arti (Bologna), University of Edinburgh (Great Britian), University of Bologna, Université de Liège (Belgium) and University of Ferrara.

The symposium is directed by Paolo Valesio and Marcello Neri and coordinated by Flavia Manservigi.

The Voice of Poetesses 2017

Tuesday, June 6th at 4:30 pm

San Colombano – Via Parigi 5, Bologna

From New Zealand to the United States (Texas and California), Italy (Naples, Pesaro and Bologna) to Israel—spanning two oceans and a sea—arrives a multiplicity of voices and languages (Hebrew, Spanish, English, and Italian) at the service of poetry and prose. This afternoon of study brings together women poets, translators and scholars to discuss questions to which its title—uniting the role of poet (poet-) with that of identity (-esse)—alludes.
